Self Control

Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls. Proverbs 25:28

Even the world’s wisdom understands the importance of resisting impulses.  It’s called “delayed gratification.”  Studies show that students (and eventually adults) who have the most success in life (lower rates of drug addiction, divorce, unemployment, unwanted pregnancies, depression,  suicide, etc.) developed this character trait of delayed gratification earlier in life. In other words, those who forfeit the immediate for the longterm.  The unseen promise of reward in place of the temporary pleasure of the moment.  Lot’s of people are suffering the longterm consequences  of immediate gratification.   Teach kids the importance of Holy Spirit led self-Control.  It is a strong fortress in this fallen world of peril we live in.
