“Intelligence plus Character—That is the goal of education.”
--Martin Luther King Jr.
Research shows that character education is often the game-changer in achieving academic success. This comes as no surprise to those who believe the Bible. As we read in Scripture, kids are blessed when they are influenced by godly mentors and positive role models:
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
The student is not above the teacher,
but everyone who is fully trained
will be like their teacher.
1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be deceived; bad company corrupts good morals.
We are not saying that non-Christian tutors are necessarily immoral or bad people. But how many have had their perspectives formed at secular universities that were, in fact, decidedly anti-Christian? Given the impression that a tutor can have on a young person, parents must be extremely cautious when allowing others access to their kids.
